ONE WAY TO SPEND A HOLIDAY by Ruth Barnes

Oh no! It's 7 a.m. and there goes the alarm clock.

A church floor might not be the most comfortable place to spend the night, but right now it has more appeal than joining the queue for the cloakroom.
What's that? What am I doing here?
Oh, I'm on my annual holiday of course! If you think that sounds crazy, wait until you hear the rest...

If you happen to be strolling along the beach during the morning, make sure you don't get caught up in a boisterous game of British Bulldog, and be sure to choose your afternoon deckchair position carefully or you may find yourself suddenly awoken by a group of 50 enthusiastic would-be singers. As for your after dinner walk, be sure not to step on a sand model masterpiece or you will have ruined a whole family's chance of winning the competition.

Pardon? Do I really spend a whole week of my holiday organising events for children and families?
Well no, not exactly….. sometimes it's two weeks.

But what on earth for?
Ah well, we have a very special purpose.

You may be taken aback if I tell you that each year several hundred young people go to holiday resorts around the U.K to talk to others about Jesus.
You may be even more surprised to know that people are actually interested enough to listen and to ask questions. And why shouldn't they? After all, you can hardly reject something if you've never seriously considered it. And the interesting thing is that of those who do consider it, each summer some reach a personal decision that life without God has no meaning, and ask Him to forgive and to change them, and to become a part of their everyday life.

It doesn't mean that all their problems are instantaneously solved (in fact they sometimes face new problems) but they now know someone who will help them with each need.

And do I think this is a worthwhile way to spend a holiday?
Well, if you'd discovered the answer to life wouldn't you want to share it too?

Jesus said…."I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
John ch10 v 10
