A RUGBY PLAYERS PRAYER
International Rugby league player Tony Marchant gained virtually every honour in the game. He toured
Australia and New Zealand with the Great Britain squad and he played in several test matches. He obtained a
cup winner's medal at Wembley when his team Castleford, beat Hull Kingston Rovers 11-10 in the final in 1986.
With some colleagues, Tony attended a crusade meeting and when the evangelist concluded his message Tony
gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
"I had much success in Rugby League," says Tony, who later played with Bradford Northern, "But the thing I was
looking for was right under my nose. Success and glory don't bring lasting peace, but Jesus Christ does."
"Now, as a Christian, I just pray God will use me."
Tony attends "Christians in Sport" meetings for professional Rugby League players and other sportsmen at
Leigh in Lancashire. He also helps with a 30 strong mobile squad of sports people which visits churches and
youth clubs.
