The Sweetest Sound

Stradivarius lived and worked in Cremona, Italy over 250 years ago. Together with his two sons he made fine instruments: violins, 'cellos and violas - instruments which are still sought after today.

It is said of Stradivarius, that when he went to select wood for his instruments he always chose the part of the tree which had faced North. His reasoning was that the side of the tree, which had been buffeted the most by the wind and weather, and yet had withstood it, gave the sweetest music.

We can learn so much from this story. Some people, through unhappy experiences and circumstances, hardships and bereavement live lives that are buffeted - yet, often we find they been strengthened in the process, and through it develop that extra special character which can be such a blessing to others.

Through God's grace and His all-sufficiency we can learn to withstand the buffetings of life and through it all develop characters well pleasing to Him and our praise to God will be the sweetest sound.
